Roland Baumgartner was born in Austria. At the age of 5 years already, he started his musical training being tutored by a number of renowned Austrian music experts. Later on, he studied music composition, piano and the trumpet at the Vienna Conservatory. At age 18 he already graduated, and at 21 he became director of the "Salzburger Musikschulwerk", the youngest director ever since the founding of this music school. During that time he composed the ballet Bergsegen, which was performed for the first time by the Royal Ballet of London. In 1979 he went to the United States to study music composition with Leonard Bernstein. The influence of this eminent teacher led to Baumgartner's decision to work henceforth as a freelance composer and conductor, with the outcome that over the years he came to conduct such renowned orchestras as, among others, the Czechoslovak Philharmonic Orchestra, the NDR Symphonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Festival Orchestra and the Bolshoi Symphonic Orchestra. This unusually multi-facetted approach as a composer and conductor awakened the interest of international personalities in the world of film and TV production. With an abundance of music titles for international films such as Deadly Games, Joseph's Daughter, Body and Soul, Jungle Warriors, Night of Four Moons, The Secret of The Black Dragon (Manson Inter.Group/Orion) and Ali Baba, Roland Baumgartner demonstrates his incredible versatility. More than 100 TV films and series were entrusted to him by patrons such as the BBC, SRG, RA2, ORF, ZDF, ARD, RTL, ARTE, DEUTSCHE WELLE, BR and many more. Additionally, he composed about 1000 titles for the international music library and music label Arcadia (M.S.I) Muvico Int. This commission ranged from large symphonic film music to modern sound design and various international and cultural themes.

His largest symphonic opus so far, the Missa Pacis, premièred in Philadelphia at the 200- year-anniversary of the American constitution in June of 1987, in the presence of the United States Governors and representatives from 80 countries. On occasion of the 100-year-anniversary of Hollywood, Roland Baumgartner produced a symphonic composition for large orchestra and choir, the Hollywood Symphony. It was published as a CD series in 1996. Roland Baumgartner was the first composer of the western world able to realize a coproduction between the two opposing powers, the UDSSR, as it was then, and the USA. The high-budget production of Ali Baba, a ballet film starring solo dancers of the Atlanta Ballet and the Moscow Bolshoi Ballet, was sponsored by Coca Cola. The libretto for this piece was written by Mariana Shevardnaze, daughter of Edward Shevardnaze who was then Soviet Foreign Minister. In 1991 “Musical Sisi” it was composed with the aim of creating the quintessential European musical combining international music styles. By blending Viennese elements with rocksymphonic instrumentation, the highly successful musical Sisi – Her Majesty of Beauty came into being. As in the composition of Bernstein's West Side Story, the musical was re-written multiple times to hone it to perfection. The musical runs in Europe since 1998 and is probably—in the history of musicals—the first European opus of its kind that is internationally successful. Meanwhile, Roland Baumgartner has composed other musicals, such as Wintergarten which premièred in 1999. In August of 1994, the Missa Pacis was presented by Karin Schnabl in Bonn. The concert was recorded by the German radio station Deutsche Welle and broadcast via satellite into 38 countries worldwide. More than 50 embassies supported this event. In September of 1995, the peace symphony Missa Pacis was presented at the annual music festival "Linzer Klangwolke" in Austria. For this event, the opus was newly edited in coordination with the Brucknerhaus Linz and the ORF, and staged in an unforgettable visual sound and light show for an audience of 70 000 people. Quote by Director Karl Gerbel of the Brucknerhaus Linz: "The time has come for the Missa Pacis!". In September of 1996, Roland Baumgartner's nature symphony, Symphonia Globalis, was presented at that year's "Linzer Klangwolke" to an audience of 95 000 people (reported by the ORF, the Austrian national Radio and TV program). This symphony is dedicated to David McTaggart, founder of the Greenpeace movement, who was present at the première in Linz. On 23 April, 1997, in Vienna, and on 24 April at the Brucknerhaus Linz, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra performed for the first time a specially commissioned composition by Roland Baumgartner to commemorate its 50-years anniversary. 

1998

• The symphonic version of his Musical “Excalibur” was presented to an audience of 10.000 people in an open air event with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna and the singer from the Band Toto “Bobby Kimball”

2000:

• The Musical “Sisi” was performed at the famous “Prinzregententheater” in Munich.

2001: 

Production of the George Foreman project “Let us live” with Ramon Vargas and the “Vienna Boys – choir”.  Part of the project was broadcasted on NBC. 

• Roland Baumgartner's works have appeared on more than 120 CDs in over 40 countries. His catalogue registers more than 3900 compositions at present.

2002: Composition of the “Opera Mystica” 

2004:

• Composition and recording of “The George Foreman Opera” in the USA and Austria.
• Production and composition for a musical and an arthouse film about the Autrian Painter “Friedensreich Hundertwasser”. The musical has been played in Germany and Vienna.

2009:

• Premier of the Children Musical “Der Pankratz” for the summer Festival in Austria

• World Premier of the Neoromantic Opera “Luther” in Germany with performances in Hof and Bayreuth

 Roland Baumgartner,  in Österreich geboren, begann bereits im Alter von 5 Jahren mit seinem Studium bei verschiedenen österreichischen Kapazitäten. Anschließend belegte er am Konservatorium Wien Komposition, Klavier und Trompete. Er graduierte bereits im Alter von 18 Jahren und war mit 21 Jahren der jüngste Musikschul-Direktor im Salzburger Musikschulwerk seit dessen Bestehen. In dieser Zeit komponierte er das Ballett "BERGSEGEN", das vom Royal Ballett London uraufgeführt wurde. 1979 ging er nach Amerika und studierte bei Leonard Bernstein Kompositionslehre. Leonard Bernsteins Einfluss führte zu der Entscheidung, dass er als Freelancecomposer und freier Dirigent zu arbeiten begann und danach namhafte Orchester, wie z.B. die Tschechoslowakische Philharmonie, NDR - Sinfonieorchester, Philadelphia - Philharmonic - Orchestra, Vienna - Festival - Orchestra, Bolshoi-Symphony-Orchestra u.a. dirigierte. Die ungewöhnlich vielschichtige Arbeit als Komponist und Dirigent weckte das Interesse internationaler Film-, Fernseh- und Serienproduzenten. Mit einer Fülle von Musiken für internationale Filme wie z.B. "DEADLY GAMES", "JOSEPH´S DAUGHTER", "BODY AND SOUL", "JUNGLE WARRIORS", "NIGHT OF FOUR MOONS", "THE SECRET OF BLACK DRAGON" (Manson Inter.Group/Orion) und "ALI BABA" tritt seine schier unerschöpfliche Vielseitigkeit hervor, so daß er für Fernsehstationen wie BBC, SRG, RA2, ORF, ZDF, ARD, RTL, ARTE, DEUTSCHE WELLE, BR u.v.a. ein Begriff wurde. Über 100 TV Filme und -Serien wurden ihm anvertraut. Außerdem komponierte er etwa 1000 Titel für die internationale Musikbibliothek und das Musiklabel Arcadia (M.S.I) Muvico Int.  Diese Aufträge reichten von großer symphonischer Filmmusik bis zu modernem Sounddesign und verschiedenen internationalen und kulturellen Themen.
Sein bisher größtes Orchesterwerk "MISSA PACIS" (WELTFRIEDENSMESSE) wurde zum Anlaß der 200-Jahr-Feier der amerikanischen Verfassung im Beisein des amerikanischen Präsidenten, der Gouverneure und Vertretern aus 80 Staaten in Philadelphia uraufgeführt. Anläßlich des 100-jährigen-Hollywood-Jubiläums produzierte Roland Baumgartner eine symphonische Dichtung für ein 100-köpfiges Orchester mit Chor, die "HOLLYWOOD SYMPHONIE". Diese erscheint als CD Serie in 1996. Als erster westlicher Komponist realisierte Roland Baumgartner eine Co-Produktion zwischen der ehemaligen UDSSR und den USA. Diese High-Budget-Produktion „Ali Baba“ wurde von Coca-Cola gesponsert und war ein Ballett-Film mit den Solisten des Atlanta-Balletts und des Moskauer BolschoiBallettes. Das Libretto zu dieser Produktion wurde von der Tochter des ehemaligen sowjetischen Aussenministers Schewardnaze, Manana Schewardnaze geschrieben. 1991 „Sisi Kaiserliche Schönheit“ hatte Roland Baumgartner, der schon immer von der schillernden Figur der Kaiserin Elisabeth begeistert war, die Idee, ein Musical über die ehemalige Kaiserin von Österreich zu schreiben. Es sollte ein ur-europäisches Musical mit internationaler Musikstilistik werden. Eine Deutschlandtournee unter dem Titel "MOVIE CLASSICS " im Frühjahr 1994 mit dem russischen "BOLSHOI - SYMPHONY - ORCHESTRA, welches Margot Werner begleitete, wurde bei Publikum und Medien ein Sensationserfolg. Roland Baumgartner arrangierte alle Titel für die Münchener Sängerin und dirigierte das Orchester während der gesamten ausverkauften Tournee, als auch für die gleichnamige CD. Im Frühjahr 1994 produzierte Roland Baumgartner dann den Titelsong CRY für die ARD-Abendserie "DIE GERICHTSREPORTERIN" mit "JENNIFER RUSH", ebenso die gesamte Filmmusik für die 13-teilige Serie. Im August 1994 wurde die MISSA PACIS in Bonn präsentiert und von der Deutschen Welle via Satellit in 38 Länder übertragen. Mehr als 50 Botschaften unterstützten dieses Ereignis. Im September 1995 wurde die Friedenssinfonie MISSA PACIS anlässlich der LINZER KLANGWOLKE 95 in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Brucknerhaus Linz und dem ORF neu überarbeitet und visuell inszeniert und 70.000 Menschen genossen dieses unvergleichliche Konzert live. Zitat Direktor Karl Gerbel - Brucknerhaus Linz : " Es wird Zeit für die MISSA PACIS ! ". Am 7. September 1996 wurde anlässlich der LINZER KLANGWOLKE 96 Roland Baumgartners neueste Sinfonie, ein Auftragswerk des Brucknerhauses Linz, die Natursinfonie "SYMPHONIA GLOBALIS" im Linzer Donaupark aufgeführt. Die Sinfonie ist dem Greenpeace-Begründer David McTaggart gewidmet, der persönlich bei der Welturaufführung in Linz zugegen war. Die Zuschauerzahl wurde vom ORF in den Nachrichten mit 95.000 angegeben. Seit 10 Jahren arbeitet er für die größte Soundtracklibrary der Welt und nach seinen Werken werden TV-Fachleute aus verschiedensten Fernsehanstalten geschult. Am 23. April 1997 wurde in Wien im Konzerthaus und am 24.April 1997 im Brucknerhaus Linz das Wiener Kammerorchester zum ersten Male eine Auftragskomposition von Roland Baumgartner anlässlich "50 Jahre Kammerorchester Wien" welturaufgeführt. 1998 Konzertante Aufführung des Symphonic – Rock Musicals Excalibur unter Mitwirkung des Radio Symphonieorchesters Wien und internationalen Gesangssolisten. Roland Baumgartner arbeitete mit vielen internationalen Interpreten, wie z. B. Peter Hoffmann, K.S. Peter Dworsky, Engelbert Humperding und Jennifer Rush, Wiener Sänger Knaben, Philladelphia Boys Choir u.v.a. Ausverkaufte Aufführungsserie vom Musical Sisi im Prinzregententheater in München sowie im Ronacher in Wien 2001.

2002: Fertigstellung des George Foreman-Projects mit dem Vienna Festival Symphony Orchestra, den Wiener Sängerknaben sowie Tenorsolist Ramon Vargas. Produktion des George Foreman Oratorio im Openair Stadium Houston.

2003: Fertigstellung des George Foreman Projects Volume 2 ab Nov. 2003 im amerikanischen Verkaufsfernsehen. Im Bereich der modernen symphonischen Musik komponierte Baumgartner für die verschiedensten Instrumentalgruppen vielfälltige, außergewöhnliche kammermusikalische Werke, wie für den Wiener Klangbogen die „Anti – war suite“, und „Symbiose“ ein Werk für Orgel und Bläsertrio.

2004: „The House of Dreams” eine Oper über den berühmten österreichischen Maler Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

2005: Realisierung des Hundertwasser Multimedia- Theaters im Hunderwasservillage

2006: Healthart Musik und Filmproduktion „Die Kunst mit deinem Körper zu Leben“

2007: Fertigstellung der Neoromantikoper über den Reformator Martin Luther, Fixierung des Welturaufführungstermins am 5.März 2010 an der neuen Oper Hof und Bayreuth.

Fertigstellung der George Foreman Opera geplante Welturaufführung in Monte Carlo. Herstellung einer Cross Over CD mit dem Nachwuchs Star Tenor Angelo Ferrari.

2008: Arbeit an zwei neuen Opern: „Ludwig“ und „Golden Child“ und der „Presidents Symphonie“

Fertigstellung der „Opera Mystica“ nach den Texten der fünf Gründer der Weltreligionen: Konfuzius, Buddha, Jesus, Abraham und Mohammed das die Versöhnung der Kulturen als inhaltliches Ziel hat.

2010: Welturaufführung der Neoromantischen Oper „Luther“ im Theater Hof und weitere Aufführungen in Beyreuth.

Symphonisches Filmmusikkonzert mit Werken von Williams und Baumgartner am 4. November 2010 in der neuen Oper Bratislava.

2011: Auftragswerk der slowakischen Nationaloper „ Maria Theresia“ .  

Auftragswerk der Oper „Hoffmanns Welt“ für das Theater Hof und das E.T.A Hoffmanntheater in Bamberg. Uraufführung am 4. März 2011 im Opernhaus Hof. Die Gastspiele in Beyreuth und im E.T.A. Hoffmantheater in Bamberg waren große Publikumserfolge. 

2012: 11.Oktober 2012 Weltpremiere der neoromantischen Oper „Maria Theresia“ in der Hauptrolle die in Wien lebende bekannte Sopranistin aus Prag Luisa Albrechtova.

14.Oktober 2012 zweite Premiere der neoromantischen Oper „Maria Theresia“ Im Zuge des ARMEL-Opernfestival, welche von ARTE live übertragen wurde. „Maria Theresia, ist eine neue Arte der Oper welche moderne Musik und wunderschöne Melodien enthält.

Roland Baumgartner wurde Mitglied der Music Online Academy „Vienna Mozart“ und dort als Professor für Komposition berufen.

2013: Die Welturaufführung der Kammeroper „Der Marilyn-Monroe-Prozess“ im Zuge des NÖ-Viertelfestivals.

2014: Roland Baumgartner gründete das „Romantik-Theater“ im Weinviertel. Er ist dessen künstlerischer Leiter und komponierte für die erste Saison die Neoromantische Operette „Flatterhafte Herzen“

29.Oktober Bulgarienpremiere der Oper „Marilyn Monroe im Opernhaus Ruse Weitere sehr erfolgreiche Aufführungen der Opernproduktion in Varnar und Tel Aviv.

2015: Die Erfolgsproduktion “Calafati“, über eine der berühmtesten Gründer des Wiener Praters wurde von Mai bis Oktober 2015 im Romantik-Theater gespielt und vom Publikum mit großer Begeisterung angenommen.

In der Weihnachtszeit begeisterte Roland Baumgartner das Publikum mit seinem neuestem Singspiel „Stille-Nacht“, welches in beeindruckender Weise die Geschichte der Entstehung des berühmten Weihnachtsliedes „Stille-Nacht“ erzählt.

2016: Die Operette „ Die Rosenkönigin“ wird im Romantik Theater Uraufgeführt.

2017: Welturaufführung der Operette „Ein echter Kavalier“ 27. November: Ausverkauft Welturaufführung der Opernversion des Musicals „Sisi“ in der Staatsoper Stara Zagora.

2018: 27. und 28. April Sondervorstellungen der Kammeroper „ Der Marilyn Monroe Prozess“ in Wien.
